Rifles for the .223 utilize a wide range of rifling twist rates, from 1 twist in 7″ to 1 twist in 12″. Bullets above 60 grains require faster twists to provide the best accuracy. As a general rule, bolt action rifles have a 1 in 12″ twist and shoot best with bullet weights of 60 grains or less. Semi-automatic rifles produced since 1985 generally have a faster twist and can stabilize the heavier bullets but may not perform as well with the lightest bullets. The 60 grain versions are a good choice for agencies or individuals who need one bullet weight to work in a variety of rifles with different twist rates from 1 in 7″ to 1 in 12″. Velocities shown are from 24″ barrels.

Black Hills Ammunition Dual Performance™ line features a monolithic machined copper projectile that immediately begins expansion upon impact forming a temporary cavity exceeding the capability of conventional bullets. Once the large primary cavity is created, the petals release from the body of the projectile to cut separate wound tracks through the stressed tissue. The body of the bullet, still retaining a substantial percentage of its original weight but now free from the unnecessary drag, penetrates deeply to ensure maximum effect on the target.
